Environment

The rapid and intense development of China has entailed a significant ecological footprint. Consequently, the environmental vector will gain importance in the planning and management of resources and natural environment.

The urban population in China has grown from 20% in 1980 to over 50% in 2011; and it is expected that this migratory flow will continue in the long term. Currently, over 600 million people live in big cities. This situation, together with the increasing industrialization of the country, has brought great challenges in the areas of water supply and waste management.
